PITTSBORO — There are more rabies warnings for central North Carolina after a rabid beaver tried to attack two boaters on Jordan Lake in Chatham County.
While that was the first time a case of rabies in a beaver has been reported in the state, there have been an alarming number of rabies cases reported in other animals this year.
Pet owners are lining up to get their animals vaccinated, and are strongly advised to do so. There have been 414 rabid animals reported so far this year. Most have been raccoons, foxes, skunks and bats.
