Rabies Continues to Spread in Central NC

PITTSBORO — There are more rabies warnings for centralNorth Carolina after a rabid beaver tried to attack two boaters on JordanLake in Chatham County.

While that was the first time a case of rabies in a beaver has beenreported in the state, there have been an alarming number of rabies casesreported in other animals this year.

Pet owners are lining up to get their animals vaccinated, and arestrongly advised to do so. There have been 414 rabid animals reported sofar this year. Most have been raccoons, foxes, skunks and bats.
