One Dead After Durham Break-In

Posted June 10, 1997 12:00 a.m. EDT

— A resident of East Durham was killed Tuesday morning after police say a man knocked on the door of the Alma Street apartment asking to use the telephone. When the resident stepped aside, two men into rushed into the house, firing multiple shots at one of the occupants.

The victim, said to be in his late 20's, later died from those wounds at Duke Medical Center. Another person inside the apartment was not hurt.

Police say the suspects, two black males, fled from the scene in an older model brown or tan station wagon. They say it appears robbery was the motive, but they do not know if anything was taken from the house or if the victim knew any of the assailants.

Police have not revealed the identity of the occupants of the house.
