New Bern Lockdown Could Remain in Effect

NEW BERN — Officials who locked down the Craven Countyjail Saturday say it's likely to stay that way indefinitely.

Several prisoners clogged their toilets causing their cells to floodover the past weekend.

The sheriff implemented a lockdown, forcing prisoners to remain intheir cells for 23 hours a day. Sheriff Monette says a permanent lockdownwill go into effect July 1 because overcrowding.
