Johnston County Still Sprucing Up After Fran

CLAYTON — Hurricane Fran roared through North Carolinalast September 5, but residents are still dealing with the aftermath.Saturday, it was Clemmons State Park's turn to be spruced up.

Volunteers turned out at the park yesterday to get the picnic areaready for summer. The group cleared out downed trees and branches thatFran snapped like matchsticks.

The storm killed about 75 percent of the mature trees in the 500-acrepark, and also caused $30,000 - $50,000 in damage to park facilities.

Still, come summer, lots of fun will be had at the park, which issituated on Old Highway 70-A.
