Owner of Burned Factory Gets Parole

HAMLET — The owner of a chicken plant where 25 workersdied in a fire will be released from jail early. A parole board grantedEmmett Roe his freedom Thursday.

The Imperial Foods chicken plant went up in flames in 1991. A juryconvicted Roe on two counts of involuntary manslaughter because plantwere locked and many could not escape the flames.

Under the conditions of his release, Roe is not allowed to return toNorth Carolina except for medical care.
