Rocky Mount Woman Attacked

Posted April 12, 1997 12:00 a.m. EDT

— Law enforcement officials across the nation are looking for a man who kidnapped, beat and sexually assaulted a woman early Saturday morning.

Police say a 69-year-old woman was abducted from her home and forced into a car. The assailant beat and assaulted her and then dropped her off unconscious in a rural part of Nash County.

The woman managed to get to a nearby house for help. She is now in stable condition at Nash General Hospital and her assailant is missing with her car.

According to police the prime suspect is 23-year-old Danny O'Neil Richardson, who knew the vicitim because he did work for her around the house.

Police believe he might be in the Holster area of Halifax County driving a 1991 white Honda Accord station wagon.

Neighors in the well-kept and ordinarily quiet area are shocked. Wade Boyette said no one is safe.

Within hours, Boyette's words seemed eerily prophetic.

A similar crime was reported in Rocky Mount Saturday night. Police were notified that a man had broken into a woman's house where he robbed and assaulted her.

An officer was able to get to the house in time to arrest the suspect at the scene. No relationship existed between the suspect and victim.
