Father Grateful to Get Baby Back

DURHAM — Police in Durham are looking for a man whostole a car with a baby inside. The car was found an hour later, itsmotor still running, with the child still inside -- unharmed.

Six-month-old Shawn Epps' adventure began when his father left thefamily car running when he stopped to use a pay phone at a conveniencestore on University Drive.

Nathaniel Epps told police the suspect jumped into the car and droveoff. Shawn was in the back seat.

Epps feared the thief might toss Shawn out of the vehicle. Instead, ananonymous tip was phoned into police a short while later, telling themwhere to find the car and child.

The car was found on Swan Street, near Duke University Road.

Police have only a vague description to work from as they hunt for asuspect; he was wearing a hood and sunglasses.
