Assaulted Child's Condition Improves

FAYETTEVILLE — Doctors for the 4-year-old girl whowas assaulted in a Cumberland County foster home have upgraded hercondition from critical to guarded. Her mother, Ann Babcock, says thechild is now breathing on her own and showing signs of coming out of acoma.

Jennifer Babcock was thrown by her foster parents' 13-year-olddaughter, allegedly because she was in the bathroom too long.

Doctors had given Jennifer a 50 percent chance of survival Wednesday.
