Sex Offenders Will Have To Register Under New Law

RALEIGH — State prison officials say North Carolina'ssex offender registration is off to a good start.

But there's still room for improvement.

Officials say when the General Assembly meets in January, lawmakerswill fine-tune a law requiring anyone convicted of a sex crime to registerwith his local sheriff.

Only about 12 percent of the sex offenders released from state custodythis year havenotregistered.
