RALEIGH — THE Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic was, asusual, a big even in the Triangle this year. It also raises funds that areput to good use in the community.
Friday, a check for $750,000, money raised by the sporting event, waspresented to the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The Golf Classic tookplace in August on the links at Cary's Prestonwood Country Club.Celebrities, including actor Kevin Costner and members of the band Hootieandthe Blowfish, packed the course to raise money in the name of the lateNorth Carolina State Wolfpack basketball coach, Jim Valvano.
The Classic has raised more than $1.5 million for cancer research inits three year history.
