Accident Ties Up Traffic on Capital Blvd

WAKE FOREST — There was at least one serious injuryin a Friday afternoon accident that tied up traffic for hours near WakeForest. As a result, traffic on Highway 1 in the Mini-City area was backedup more than usual during rush hour.

Investigators say a collision between a dump truck and atractor-trailer leftone person pinned underneath the wreckage at about 4 p.m. Commuters wereasked toavoid Capital Blvd. from Mini-City north, but traffic was backed up formiles by 6 p.m. By that time, troopers had closed the northbound lanes.

It took rescue workers more than an hour to free one of the victims.That person was flown by Air-Care helicopter to UNC Hospitals in ChapelHill.
