Duke Won't Get Caught Unprepared Again

DURHAM — If there is ever another storm likeHurricane Fran, you can bet Duke University will be closed.

Duke has revamped its severe weather policy following sharp criticismin the wake of Fran. Despite snapped power lines and toppled trees on theday after the storm hit, Duke officials kept the school open.

One campus employee drove into a downed tree and later died.

The new policy will allow more employees to stay home in severeweather.
