Raleigh Experiencing Rash of Carjackings

Posted November 18, 1996 12:00 a.m. EST

— Three carjackings have occurred in North Raleigh in the past week. All three took place in the area around Lynn and Ray Roads, and Raleigh police are looking for a trio of suspects.

Investigators say the group is targeting newer cars and typically confronts victims at gunpoint.

The latest incident occurred Monday just before 2 a.m., when one suspect approached a driver. A second suspect then joined the first and a third followed in another vehicle. This, police say, is the system used in all three incidents.

Raleigh police Sgt. C.A. Bryant says victims are being followed home by the suspects.

Police have descriptions of two of the suspects. Two of the cars were recovered Monday in Durham.
