Fire at Broadway School

Posted November 9, 1996 12:00 a.m. EST

— A fire was reported about 6 a.m. Saturday in the cafeteria of Broadway Elementary School. Firefighters from a total of four nearby areas managed to contain the blaze within 25 minutes.

The school is on Main Street, off old 421 in Lee County.

Because state property is involved, the State Bureau of Investigation has been called in. So far there are no signs of foul play. The fire might have originated in electrical equipment in the cafeteria. The cafeteria floor and furnishings were heavily damaged.

The firefighters that responded were from Sanford, Lemon Springs, Carolina Trace and Boone Trail.

It will be school as usual for the students. Administrators say they will arrange to have lunch brought in.
