The boy was just standing inside the store when he was struck bygunfire from across the street. Police say a customer who had been insidethe M and A Food Mart earlier Sunday night is a prime suspect.
They say the incident began with a dispute over change from a purchase, after which the customer stormed out of the store. Police believe it wasthat customer who later returned and fired off a spray of bullets that also hit a parked car and the side of the store. Other than that, policesay, they aren't sure what happened.
The victim's family is a close-knit group of Jordanian Palestinianimmigrants. Dr. El Kassabany, a family friend, says the family is deeplygrieving.
Officers canvassed a five-block area around the crime scene looking forleads and showing people a composite drawing of the customer (pictured,at left), hoping totrack him down.
