Fran Deadline Extended

RALEIGH — The federal government announced Fridaythat it is extending the deadline for applying for aid from HurricaneFran's damage.

The new deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 4.

To apply for financial help from the Federal Emergency ManagementAgency (FEMA) call1-800-462-9029.The hearing impairedmay call1-800-462-7585.

The new deadline also applies to people who have already filed anapplication with FEMA and are now submitting paperwork to the SmallBusiness Administration (SBA) todetermine eligibility for home and business loans. The SBA helpline is1-800-525-0321.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is closing its TREE OFF hotline, asthey said they would. The corps will continue to remove trees threateningTriangle homes for the next several weeks, but residents need to have anapplication on file by 6 p.m. today to qualify.Call1-888-TREE-OFFformore information about today's deadline
