DUNN — A 17-year-old boy was charged Friday with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle after a truck crash that killed a 13-year-old friend.
Justin Flynn would have turned 14 in just a week, but his family won't be celebrating on that day. Investigators say Dickinson had a learner's permit, but no driver's license when he and Flynn went for a ride in Dickinson's 1978 Ford pickup truck. James, they say, took a curve too fast and lost control of the vechicle, flipping it five times.
Authorities also charged Dickinson with driving without a license, displaying a fictitious registration, failure to wear a safety belt and having no insurance.
Flynn's aunt, Toni Myers, says the family is in shock, but they don't blame Dickinson for what happened.
In this case, the life of a sixth-grader with dreams of becoming a football star was cut short. Justin Flynn's funeral is scheduled for Saturday.
His family is not only struggling with the emotional loss, they are also having a hard time paying for the funeral. Skinner Funeral Home in Dunn is accepting contributions on behalf of the family.
