Investigators Search For Missing Person County Woman

Posted Updated

PERSON COUNTY, N.C. — The disappearance of a teacher's assistant with Durham Public Schools has stumped investigators in her hometown. Carolyn Johnson left her Person County home for Watts Elementary School after 7 a.m. on Sept. 5, and she has not been seen since.

Investigators do not have any major leads in the case. They have detected no activity in Johnson's bank account, her credit card or her cell phone. They have searched a number of routes she might have taken to work in her blue Dodge Caravan, but there is no trace of her.

"Most of the time within 48 hours (when) someone is reported missing, most of the time, we know where they're at. This one is turning up nothing," said Sgt. Dewey Jones of the Person County Sheriff's Department.

Johnson's background does not provide any hints. Johnson has no criminal record, attends church regularly, and has two jobs, selling Mary Kay cosmetics and working as a teacher's assistant in Durham.

Investigators say Johnson did call a relative three hours after she was last seen, but it did not come from her cellphone.
