Wake County Students Receive Special Thank-You From NYC Rescue Workers

Posted Updated

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Several Wake County students sent best wishes and supplies to rescue workers in New York last week. On Monday, those students got a surprise thank-you note.

Vance Elementary students could only dream about whether their gifts of new work gloves would reach the right people in New York. They found out Monday that they did.

A WRAL-TV news crew in New York met the deliverymen, who took their own video camera to ground zero in Manhattan. The fourth-graders were able to see and hear the workers' response to receiving the supplies.

"I thought they were proud of our gloves and they were so excited," said student Kristyn Hake.

"It was really happy to see all the people smile and say Vance Elementary," said student Courtney Smith.

The students hope that the rescuers will eventually find the time to write them back.
