Wilmington Teen Continues To Recover From Shark Attack

Posted Updated

WILMINGTON, N.C. — A Wilmington teenager is recovering from a shark bite he got last summer.

Patrick Bruff was attacked while surfing at Wrightsville Beach in July 2000.

The shark severed several tendons in his right foot. He has since had two surgeries, along with physical therapy, and he will still need to undergo treatment to lessen his scar.

The 17-year-old feels unlucky to have been bitten, but very lucky that he lived to tell about it.

"If the shark hung on longer or was a little more aggressive, it was big enough that it could have taken my whole foot," he says.

Bruff was able to start surfing again four months after the attack even though half of his foot has no feeling.
