Two Suspended From Cumberland County Animal Control

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — The call for help is out at Cumberland County Animal Control after the suspension of two employees.

Sgt. Jonny Smith and Jim Jackson are off the job as the county manager's office looks into claims of inappropriate conduct within the agency.

With the cutback in staffing, the remaining officers will have to work overtime in an agency that is already stretched thin.

"I think we're still in good shape. This hasn't been the first time that we've been short of personnel and we still manage to make it," says Donald Byrd, chairman of the animal control board.

The county would not comment on the reason for the suspensions because it is a personnel matter.

The county manager expects the investigation to be completed within the next couple of days.
