Fayetteville Veteran Wins National Award For Caregiving

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A national honor was awarded for a local veteran who cares for other vets.

William Wiggins is a nurse at Fayetteville's State Veterans Home and was selected to receive the Rosalyn Carter Caregiver Award.

The award is named after President Jimmy Carter's wife and is the highest award given in the field.

"With all the things I've been through and all the awards I've won in the military, this is kind of cream of the crop or icing on the cake," Wiggins said.

Wiggins is one of five caregivers to receive the award, which will be handed out during a ceremony next month in Atlanta.
