Two Green Berets Earn Silver Stars

Posted Updated

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Two Fort Bragg Green Berets now have one of the military's most prestigious medals.

On Thursday morning, SFC David Lowe and CW3 Jason Hope were awarded Silver Stars. Both men earned them for combat in Afghanistan.

Officials said Hope helped kill a senior Taliban officer.

In a different battle, Lowe's friend was killed about 10 yards from him. He went after the shooter, even though he knew he could die too.

Lowe said he asked himself, "What if I take two right in the chest? I've got my kid and my wife to come back to." However, he kept fighting and played a key role in winning the gunfight.

Thursday was an especially big day for Lowe. His wife gave birth to their second child a few hours after the ceremony wrapped up.
