Squirrels, Homeowners Clash In Granville County

Posted Updated

OXFORD — Wildlife and homeowners are clashing in Granville County.

Town commissioners have discussed the problem of squirrels. Some homeowners want to shoot them before they damage their homes building nests.

Rocky Pearce has a wildlife rescue business, where he will help homeowners get rid of squirrels and raccoons. He says business has been good.

"This year, there has been an abundance of squirrels because the weather has been real good. They were having a lot of young this year. They are looking for places to have their nests," he says.

If you live in a rural area, you need a state depredation permit to use firearms on wildlife on your property. Within city limits, you need a permit from the police chief.
