Kids aimed for prizes in a ball-toss game and other activities. Organizers felt it was a good way for neighbors -- new and old -- to come together and get to know one another.
"We realized there was a need for the whole community to come together, to bring the people from the South Wilmington Street shelter that's going to be opening up together, in a very positive attitude, a friendly attitude, a fun-type attitude," said Ethel Evans, who helped to organize the event.
Though there was a lot of entertainment, it was not all fun and games. There were also screenings to check for high cholesterol and blood pressure.
