BENSON, N.C. — Federal agents are investigating a suspicious fire at a Baptist Church near Benson, authorities said Tuesday.

The fire burned the front entrance of Oakdale Baptist Church on Red Hill Church Road near the Johnston-Harnett county line early Monday before burning itself out, authorities said. The fire damaged the front doors and some vinyl siding on the building, authorities said.

No fire departments responded to the fire.

Some members of the church have told authorities that they believe the fire was intentionally set.

Agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and investigators with the Harnett County Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the fire.

In January, two churches in Greenville were set afire, destroying one of the buildings. A Farmville man was arrested in May and charged with arson in connection with those church fires.
