Debate Continues Over Proposed Landfill In Holly Springs

Posted Updated

HOLLY SPRINGS — Holly Springs residents are fighting mad about a new landfill planned for their small town.

The Wake County Board of Adjustment approved plans Tuesday for a construction debris landfill west of Highway 55. There are already four landfills in Holly Springs.

Residents say they do not want a reputation as Wake County's dumping ground.

"Whenever Wake County wants to put up anything and they don't know where to put it, they put it right here," says Nancy Walker, who opposed the project.

Tuesday's vote will be sent to the full county commission, who is also expected to approve the new landfill.
