Durham County Voter Information To Go Online

Posted Updated

DURHAM — Surfing the Internet could soon reveal information about Durham County's 150,000 registered voters.

The county's Board of Elections recently voted to post basic information such as a voter's name, address and party affiliation.

The decision still faces strong opposition from some police officers who want their personal information excluded.

Michael Ashe, director of the county election board, says the move is nothing new and that the information is already available to anyone who makes a request.

A similar Internet program is already in place in Wake and Mecklenburg counties.
