Chapel Hill Flying Club
is taking flight to a new home.
The club had been based at Horace Williams airport for the last 40 years, but now they will be based at the Sanford/Lee County Airport.
UNC had announced in May that it would not renew the flying club's lease. The move was supposed to happen over the weekend, but because of bad weather, only five of the 12 planes were able to take off.
"It's a facility that offers many advantages from a training standpoint. I think it will allow us to be probably the most active flight-training operation in the state," says pilot George Scheer.
Scheer says once the weather clears up, the other aircraft will be moved from Horace Williams Airport.
