Smoke In Cockpit Prompts Plane Evacuation At RDU

RDU INTERNATIONAL — Officials said a plane had to be evacuated at RDU International Wednesday afternoon after smoke was reported in the cockpit.

A representative with American Airlines said the flight was leaving RDU International for Newark at the time. The plane was later taxied to a safe area.

WRAL has learned that 17 passengers and three crewmembers were taken off the plane and were bused to the terminal.

The passengers were rebooked on other flights. There is no word on where the smoke came from.
