WAKE FOREST — Nikshun Dowell, a 29-year-old man from Greenville, drowned when he attempted to retrieve an inflatable raft that had drifted into the no-swimming area of the Sandling Beach Falls Lake State Recreation Area.
Dowell was under water for approximately 5 to 10 minutes before Durham fire and rescue were able to pull him out. He was transported to Rex Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
