Edgecombe County Inmate On Loose After Jail Escape

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — Edgecombe County authorities are looking for an inmate who escaped from a county detention center.

Lamont King, 32, escaped the Edgecombe County Detention Center just after 10 p.m. Saturday. A representative with the sheriff's office said King and another inmate were able to scale a 20-foot wall and cut a hole in a chain link fence that covered an exercise yard.

The other inmate, Sabilious Murphy, 21, of Princeville, was captured shortly thereafter.

King, a federal inmate being held on drug charges, is a black male who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and about 220 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, and he is believed to be wearing red inmate clothes. His last-known address is in Wilmington.
