Duke Welcomes New Laundry System

Posted Updated

DURHAM — Wouldn't it be nice if you had had a washing machine that was able to clean 30 tons of laundry a day?

That is just what the Duke University Health System has now. Officials cut the ribbon on a brand-new $14 million laundry system Wednesday.

The state-of-the art facility is designed to increase efficiency and keep costs down.

Duke, Durham Regional, and Raleigh Community hospitals will now bring all their laundry to a central location instead of taking it to separate facilities.

Duke Laundry will be able to clean 61,000 pounds of linen per day. The old facility was able to handle just 19,000 pounds per day.
