RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh lake is temporarily closed to the public because of environmental concerns.

Shelley Lake is roped off while state and local officials investigate a small chemical spill. Raleigh Public Works said that a cement mixture or paint was dumped into a creek leading into the lake.

A resident in the area said the chemical may have killed much of the marine life in the creek.

Officials believe they have identified where the spill came from, but have not said when the lake would reopen.
