RDU INTERNATIONAL — America West Airlines

announced Thursday that it would begin service between

RDU International

and its main hub in Phoenix beginning on October 28.

The Phoenix-based airlines is the nation's ninth largest and will begin two departures from RDU to Phoenix. The new flights will allow RDU customers to connect to over 40 destinations through their Phoenix hub.

"The addition of America West gives us an increased competitive advantage over other airports," says Ken Gibbs, chairman of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. "It expands the customers ability to have several choices when flying into or out of RDU. We are excited to welcome America West as RDU's 13th major air carrier."
