<b>SELMA, N.C.</b> — A man has been arrested in the death of a young mother in Selma.

Police say 22-year-old Michael Wilkerson was taken into custody near his Clayton home around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Torie Carpenter.

Carpenter was shot to death in the doorway of her Cyprus Court apartment Saturday morning.

Her children were at home when it happened. One witness said a red car sped away.

Wilkerson is being held in the Johnston County Jail without bond.
