Amtrak Train Hits Dump Truck Near Burlington

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities say an Amtrak train was involved in an accident with a dump truck west of Burlington on Tuesday morning.

Amtrak officials said the Piedmont left Raleigh at around 7 a.m. and hit a dump truck at McLeansville Road shortly before 9 a.m.

Officials said there were 50 passengers on board the train. Their conditions are not yet known.

The engineer of the train was injured, but there is no word on that person's condition. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
