Suspect Arrested In Warrenton Teen's Shooting Death

Posted Updated

WARRENTON, N.C. — Warren County deputies say they tracked down the man who shot a 13-year-old boy Saturday morning.

Authorities arrested Michael Cotman Saturday night about 25 miles outside of Richmond, Va. Investigators say he headed north after killing Savon Davis less than a block from his home just outside Warrenton.

Warren County Sheriff Johnny Williams said Davis was riding in the backseat of a car with several friends and family members when a dark sport utility vehichle pulled up behind them and someone pulled the trigger at least once.

"It went through the back of the car and went through the back seat and hit him in the back," said Williams.

The fatal shot was fired right in the driveway on the way to Davis' home, where family members gathered late Saturday to help his mother mourn. Neighbors, friends and family said Davis was a good boy.

Williams declined to comment on what led up to the shooting, but he said it was not random.
