Posted Updated

DURHAM, NC — The

North Carolina Department of Transportation

is closing a portion of U.S. 70 in Durham to motorists several nights this week.

The closings are scheduled to occur from midnight to 6 a.m. on June 18, 19, and 20, weather permitting.

The closings are expected to last about 30 minutes each night, during which time traffic on U.S. 70 at Cheek Road will be re-routed.

Traffic will also be reduced to one lane on 70 in both directions from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. through Wednesday, June 20.

The DOT says the changes are necessary to make improvements to the Cheek Road bridge crossing U.S. 70. The work is also part of an ongoing project to widen I-85 and U.S. 70.
