FAYETTEVILLE — Parents in Cumberland County joined forces Friday night to protect their children from gang violence.
Members of the Westover Middle School Parent Teacher Association held a forum to address concerns of gang activity in school and surrounding neighborhoods.
Earlier this month, one Westover parent claimed her son was beaten up in school by members of the so-called "Killer Army Crips" gang.
Friday night's meeting informed parents on ways to keep their children safe.
"What do parents do? A lot of times they feel absolutely helpless and there are resources out there," Security Supervisor Chip Grammer says. "There are things they can do and part of this is trying to educate."
Westover's PTA plans to hold another community meeting later this summer.
