Cool Glide Laser Provides Quick, Easy Remedy To Varicose Veins

Posted Updated

CARY — As the summer heat bears down on us, many women hide their legs because of embarrassing leg veins. A new laser zaps away those purple and blue lines in seconds.

Dr. Greg Viehman of Cary uses the Cool Glide laser on his patients. He says it is the first laser he has ever used that treats all types of leg veins.

"The prior lasers could only treat little teeny ones and just really weren't effective," he says.

You have to wear protective goggles to shield your eyes. Each flash of light sends heat directly to the vessel zapping away small veins. Deeper veins take six weeks or so to start fading.

The cooling mechanism on the laser lessens the sting, but there is some discomfort. Each treatment lasts around 15 minutes. Most patients need three visits to get the look they want.

The Cool Glide laser also permanently removes hair, which is an added bonus for people getting their leg veins removed. Each treatment costs between $400 and $500, depending on how large an area is being treated.
