DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are looking for a person who shot and killed a man in his car.

Investigators said Darraies McClain, 26, of 321 Melbourne Street, and his girlfriend were driving on Cheek Road at around 8 p.m. when they stopped at a red light at Midland Terrace. According to police, a gray sport-utility vehicle pulled up next to McClain in the turn lane and an occupant in the back seat fired numerous shots at the vehicle.

McClain was shot at least once in his side, police said. McClain's girlfriend drove him to Durham Regional Hospital, where he later died Monday morning.

Police said McClain and his girlfriend had just left McDougald Terrace when the shooting occurred. Investigators are looking into whether they may have been followed from there.

Police do not have a description of the alleged shooter, but they believe the vehicle may have been a Jeep or Chevrolet Tahoe.

If you have any information about the case, you are asked to contact Durham police at 919-560-4440 or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.
