RALEIGH, N.C. — A Wake Forest mother accused of beating her adopted Russian daughter to death will likely enter a guilty plea this week as part of a deal with prosecutors.
Investigators believe Peggy Hilt punched and hit her daughter, Nina Hilt, at their Wake Forest home in early July and then drove to a relative's house in Manassas, Va., where the child died.
Search warrants indicate that Hilt told Manassas authorities that the child fell down the stairs. Published reports said she later admitted to repeatedly punching the girl.
Hilt is expected to appear in court Wednesday.
