The outages started around 1 p.m. Monday. Customers trying to use theircell phones received a No Signalsymbol or dead air on their phones. Officials say the probleminvolved a switching station in Garner.
"Sometimes, you have problems with the switcher, and it impacts a fewcustomers, but this is the first marketwide problem like this thatwe've had," says ALLTEL vice president and general manager JerryWeaver.
ALLTEL engineers worked on the problem at the switching station inGarner. The telephone service has now been restored.
