Durham Man Stabs Roommate to Death

DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham man was arrested Saturday and charged with stabbing his roommate to death earlier that morning.

Alejandro Gonzalez Mendez, 38, allegedly stabbed Arturo Gonzalez Villal-Pando, 33, at their apartment, 910 W. Trinity Ave., Apt. 3-B, according to Durham police.

Police said they were called to the apartment at 2:15 a.m. when they found Villal-Pando, who had been stabbed several times. He was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he died several hours later, authorities said.

Mendez was at the apartment when police arrived, and they arrested him.

The two men had known each other for several years, and Villal-Pando had moved into the apartment a few days earlier, authorities said.

Police are not releasing a motive for the stabbing at this time.
