More ATMs Are Becoming Hot Targets For Thieves

— Investigators have some strong leads in a pair of attempted ATM robberies along Capital Boulevard.

Surveillance video shows at least two people trying to remove an ATM from a convenience store early Christmas morning.

The thieves did not succeed in the attempt, but minutes earlier, another ATM was stolen from a convenience store just down the road.

"It's an easy crime and they can easily snatch and grab the machine and leave," says Sgt. Angelia Duckworth of the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say surveillance video shows what appears to be the ATM from the earlier robbery in the back of a pickup truck. The 1980 Dodge Ram has a New Bern Pools logo. The vehicle was reported stolen.
