Cary Police Search for Car Involved in Fatal Wreck

CARY — Cary police are searching for a motorist who may have witnessed a fatal accident Saturday.

One person died and another was sent to to the hospital after a black Toyota Corolla crossed the center line and crashed into a black Chevrolet Cavalier.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. on Kildaire Farm Road, near Glasgow Road, south of Cary Parkway.

Authorities said Rafael Ramirez Cruz, 36, of 211 Wrenn Drive, was killed instantly when his Toyota Corolla crossed the center line. The driver of the other car, Gloria Merritt Austin, 53, of 710 Brunswick Place, died late Saturday afternoon at WakeMed.

Police are searching for the driver of a tan Volkswagen Jetta with New Jersey license plates. That driver may have seen how the accident occurred.

Neither alcohol nor speed are thought to be involved, officials said.
