RALEIGH — The condition of a Public Service of North Carolina worker is improving after a gas line explosion Monday.

Linwood Chavis was working on a ruptured gas line off Jones Franklin Road. Something sparked the gas, causing flames to shoot as high as 30 feet into the air.

Investigators do not know what caused the explosion. Chavis, who is being treated at UNC Hospitals, has been upgraded Tuesday from fair to good condition.
