HARNETT COUNTY — A fowl situation in Harnett County has neighbors seeing red.
Earlier this year, the owners of Hallman Farms built chicken houses on their land. Michelle Ritchey lives one mile away and says the stench is too much to bear.
Besides the smell, Ritchey says the farm is a health hazard that is depreciating the value of her home. She wants the chicken houses moved somewhere else.
"I don't want anyone else to move in Harnett County and be subject to what we have been," says homeowner Michelle Ritchey.
"What we're doing is perfectly legal by state agricultural rules and regulations," says Barbara Goss, owner of Hallman Farms.
A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday night at the Harnett County Board of Health to discuss livestock rules.
