RALEIGH — Police say a drunk driver may have played a part in a fatal crash early Tuesday morning.

The wreck happened on Wade Avenue near the Edwards Mill exit, just west of the Entertainment and Sports Arena.

Authorities say a semi-tractor trailer collided with a car in the eastbound lanes. After the wreck, the semi-trailer went across the median and crashed into some trees.

Paul Blackwell Jr., who was driving the car, is in critical condition at WakeMed. Joseph Priest, who was a passenger in the car, died in the wreck.

The truck driver was not hurt.
